Violence, Trauma and Assault Services

Provided by Sources BC

Provides individual and group counselling and services to women and children who have experienced assault or a traumatic experience.
The following services are available:
  • Short-term crisis counselling: Women who have experienced a physical assault by an intimate partner or a sexual assault within the past six months are eligible for up to eight sessions of immediate crisis counselling. They emphasize the individual's safety and emotional stability through solution-focused counselling and emotional support.
  • Mid-term counselling: They provide mid-term one-to-one counselling for those who need more support to recover from the effects of traumatic stress, depression and anxiety.
  • Group counselling: Groups help to lessen feelings of shame and isolation. They also help build positive connections and relationships. Women report that the group experience is an especially self-empowering one.
  • Confidential telephone line for survivors: The Mental Wellness Resource and Referral Line is available to all women, men and LGBTQ2S+ individuals. It is monitored by our team of compassionate and experienced trauma counsellors who follow up with clients within 24 hours (Monday through Friday) providing resources and referrals.
  • Crime Victim Assistance Program: Is awarded to any woman, child, adolescent or man that has been a victim of a crime, and has been awarded counselling benefits. Experienced trauma counsellors help people resolve the traumatic stress that resulted from the incident. If you have been the victim of a crime and have not applied for counselling benefits, you can apply online.
  • Stopping the Violence: Support for women (18+) who have experienced domestic violence and abuse or historical physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Working from a trauma-informed approach, this program supports women in creating safety, managing the emotional impact of violence and abuse as well as self-care. Services are provided in-office and community referrals are accepted for this program.
  • PEACE (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment): Trauma-informed support for children and youth (3-18) who have experienced or witnessed violence and abuse. This program focuses on assisting children in understanding emotions and expressing them in safe ways, creating safety plans, managing anger, understanding healthy relationships, increasing self-confidence/self-esteem, learning problem-solving strategies and managing family break-down. Services are provided mainly in-office or through visits at school. This program also provides the Violence is Preventable (VIP) program in local elementary schools.
